Digital Technology in Architecture

The topic which I have chosen for my dissertation is ‘Digital Technology in Architecture’. The usage of digital technology in architecture is not a new thing in this field, as architects and designers have long incorporated digital technology in their professional practice and technologies have played a major part in the development of architecture. First and foremost, computers and other digital media technologies are used as an instrument in the design process (CAD), and also act as a tool to create new visualizations and forms. The usage of digital technology has also enabled hand-drawing and modeling to be replaced with various design software, besides assisting designers to make accurate calculations of spaces and planning in the design process for instance, AutoCAD, 3ds Max Design, Maya and Rhino. Furthermore, digital technology can transform buildings from static objects to interactive communications platforms when properly and creatively applied.

Million thanks to digital technology, architecture has now evolved into something that was unimaginable 50 years ago. These new technologies are helping to transform architectural surfaces far beyond the traditional norms of architecture. To wrap it up, digital technologies have helped to define a new frontier for architecture, which also benefits the world in many ways. In my dissertation, I wish to examine how digital technology has influenced architecture and design in various ways, providing suitable case studies to prove my statement. To find out how exactly digital technology has changed the way architects and designers think is also one of the aims that I would want to achieve.
